The Boreal Shirt started here on Tioga Street 15 years ago. I sent the first ones to Dirt Time in 2010. They took off like wildfire.
Now I build the updated Boreal Superhoodie, and offer conversions from YOUR blankets in the off season. If you want that original version with the gusset hood, I rent the design to Lester River Bushcraft.
My straight cut, hip-length version features the same cozy 100% wool blanket fabric, with tremendous loft and a soft texture. It’s machine washable, so you can wear it for extended adventures. I’ve clad the elbows, cuffs, and the hem with Supplex Nylon to reduce the wear and tear on the fibers. The hem draw cords are anchored, so you can yank them shut with one hand. The same applies to the draw strings at the visor. The hood itself is generous, but not too deep. Wear your ballcap. Wear your ear muffs. It’s all good. The areas next to your face are lined with fleece to manage moisture and reduce irritation.
The Boreal Superhoodie is sized like a potato sack so you can layer up. Your phone, wallet, or pocket tools can ride along inside the zippered security pouch hidden in the belly pocket. You can sort and stash smaller items in the three front pouches. There’s enough room for gloves, a hat, or a pie pumpkin. Go wild.
Fabric: 100% wool, and recycled polyester fleece. Nylon trim. Colors: Charcoal Grey or Olive Green. Sizes SM-XL. There will be variations in textile, zipper, and thread coloring based on availability. Washing: Hand wash or machine wash cold, gentle cycle, front loading machine only. No bleach. Spin dry to remove moisture, then hang dry in a warm spot. You can dry clean our garments, but it’s icky. You will see lint, it’s expected. I’ve pre-washed everything to shrink it as much as possible, but a little extra caution goes a long way. Our wool is stabilized, but the nylon thread, webbing, and trim will shrink if they get too hot.
